About Ron

Experience matters. So does continuing to learn.

Ron spent the first part of his career as a business leader and executive, responsible for people, performance and results rather than advising others about them. He understands that leadership decisions are made inside real organizations—with competing priorities, imperfect information, organizational politics, financial pressures and consequences for people.

Over time, what began primarily as executive coaching expanded naturally into work with teams, culture, organizational change, leadership retreats and the systems surrounding leaders. Those experiences also became the foundation for The Chrysalis (Vertical Leadership Development) Program®.

Working with Groups and Teams

The Chrysalis Experience: an example of Ron’s work with groups and teams.

How the Approach Developed

Leadership development has the greatest value when it is connected directly to the work a leader is already doing. As AI makes knowledge, analysis and advice increasingly abundant, the scarce human capabilities become judgment, context, relationships, sense-making and the ability to turn insight into action.

Lens-in-Use™

Lens-in-Use™ helps people examine what they are paying attention to, what they may be overlooking and the assumptions behind their conclusions.

Ron includes his own lens in that examination. His role is not to arrive with the correct interpretation, but to bring another experienced perspective that can also be questioned.

The Chrysalis Architecture

Individual leadership does not happen in isolation.

The Chrysalis Architecture connects individual development with teams, culture and the wider organizational conditions that shape behavior.

That is one reason Ron’s advisory work can move between an individual leader, a team and the broader organization. Sometimes helping the individual is enough. Sometimes the surrounding conditions are part of the problem too.

The Learning Loop

Orient. Experiment. Reflect. Integrate.

Development does not have to happen somewhere separate from the work.

The Learning Loop uses situations a leader is already facing as the material for development. A difficult conversation, an important decision, a relationship that is not working or a team problem becomes an opportunity to try something deliberately different.

The leader acts, pays attention to what happens, reflects on what was learned and carries that learning into the next situation.

What This Means in an Advisory Relationship

These approaches inform Ron’s work. Clients do not have to learn the terminology, select a methodology or decide which kind of intervention they need before beginning.

You are not hiring a methodology or a consulting team.

You are getting direct access to one experienced outside partner who can work with you, your leaders and your organization as the situation changes.
